I picked this up last weekend at the local coin shop. Went in looking for nothing in particular, though I knew I was interested in adding Dollar coins to the collection. …And I spotted this one in the case. How could I resist? Turns out there were a number of 1882 dollars to choose from. All the others were graded and slabbed, and while I could buy a slabbed coin I would then either not be able to actually hold and touch the coin, or I would have to break the slab open… and somehow that just feels wrong.

As an added bonus this one is a local (San Francisco Mint) coin!
